Garlic Prices Increasing Worldwide Due To Corona Virus Epidemic

The world is currently seeing severe changes on day to day life, effecting everything from local bars and restaurants to airlines and transportation to global economies and supply chains. These are repercussions that will be felt around the globe. One instance for example, is garlic. China accounts for approximately 80 percent of the global export market of garlic. There is speculation that the spread of corona virus, might damper shipments of garlic from China. This has driven up the prices of Chinese garlic.

According to Antonio Rakigjija, CEO of Agropex Trading, a wholesale dried goods import and export company, whose main focus is garlic had this to say... "Large traders have hiked up the price of garlic throughout the world. Most of them have stopped imports of fruits and vegetables from China, citing both the virus and logistical difficulties as reasoning.

Some countries have gone as far as implementing a temporary import ban on products from China. China is also a major exporter of ginger and dried chillies. These markets have also affected by the labor shortages in farms and distribution networks due to the corona virus epidemic. These markets may continue to rise if the shortfalls continue."

These are unique times and it is very important to be prepared for the unknown. Things are changing every day. Keep yourself informed and aware. Wash your hands, eat healthy and drink water.
